In His Own Words
As a young boy, movie scenes of swashbuckling, sword-fighting pirates fascinated Chris. During his sophomore year in high school, and with a personal philosophy of going against the norm of extracurricular activities such as basketball or tennis, he decided to learn fencing.

Though he wasn’t a natural (quite horrible really) and was a benchwarmer during his first two years of fencing, with hard work and sheer determination, he placed 8th in the individual all-city competition during senior year.

Following high school, Chris joined the UC Berkeley fencing team and had the opportunity to compete against Olympic fencers. One day after practice, out of the corner of his eye Chris spotted a man and woman fighting. He proceeded to get in between the fighting couple, pushing the man aside. With clenched fists, the man came after Chris. Instinctively, Chris pulled out his foil and pointed it in self-defense at the lunging man, persuading the man to turn around and run.

What do you wish you could learn more about?
I would love to learn more about wine and how to make it. Right now, I try to visit Napa at least once a month, making regular visits to Chateau St. Jean, Cakebread Cellars, and Merryvale. My dream job would be to own and run a wine bar or be a sommelier for a classy restaurant. In the meantime, I’m building up my own wine collection.

What is something about you that would surprise most people?
I was set on becoming a pilot in the Navy (even though I didn’t know how to swim at the time), but those dreams were dashed when my eyesight fell below 20/20. I have also tried out for the UC and San Francisco police departments, making it to the 2nd hiring tier.

What do you look for in a girlfriend?
Besides the usual, it’s important that she be willing to talk through conflicts and be open-minded to different opinions.

If dinner and a movie were banned from a first date, what would you do instead?
Since I generally don’t like to do things that everyone else does; I wouldn’t even consider doing the boring movie and dinner routine. Anyways, I don’t want to give away all my ideas, the best way to find out would be to go out on a date with me. :)

How would your friends describe you?
Logical, cerebral, outgoing yet quiet and shy. I know that sounds strange. I generally feed off the energy of the other person, so it depends on whom I’m with at the moment.

What lesson would you like to tell your younger self?
Study more, procrastinate less, and sell your tech stocks before 2001.
