Vital Statistics
Name: Elaine
Height: 5'-5"
Origin: Los Angeles
Career: Engineer

Biography
Elaine moved to the Bay Area from LA to attend Cal and became a Bay Area girl at heart. An engineer by day, she balances herself out by indulging in many things, such as snowboarding, B&W photography, strolling by the beach with her dog, traveling, and browsing through fashion magazines... to name a few.

Combine her interests – such as shopping in Paris or photography in Alaska (but not snowboarding with her dog) – and she is very enthusiastic. She loves to learn new things and has an insatiable curiosity.

However, one of her favorite compliments is that she isn’t a geeky engineer! (even though she may be.)
Her current passion is her work on a book about the lives of Filipino-American women. Despite it all, two of her top interests are meeting interesting people and laughing with friends.

Baare Speed Dating Interview

Baare: What do you wish you could learn more about?
Elaine: Oh there are so many things! Since I love to eat – I’m both a chowhound and a foodie! – Cooking is something I’d like to do better… alright, learn how to do… I’m already skilled at ordering, microwaving, and chewing.

Baare: What is something about you that would surprise most people?
Elaine: I can make a mean “Hoochie Mama” – the drink, that is!

Baare: What do you look for in a boyfriend?
Elaine: Sure, I want the funny, intelligent, nice-looking, accomplished guy just like any other girl! But ultimately, I’d like a guy who is described by his friends being an all-around great “catch”. You know, talented in many areas, someone who is great to be around, and a generous and good-hearted person. I believe that what one’s friends think says a whole lot about a person.

Baare: We noticed that quite a few of our bachelors are interested in women who are into sports. What do you suggest for women who want to be more involved in sports activities?
Elaine: The first thing is: don’t do it just to meet a guy! There are so many benefits to being involved in sports – physical exercise, camaraderie among players, the thrill of the competition, the boost to one’s self-esteem and confidence, development of new skills, and overcoming of challenges. Focus on those benefits and get involved in sports for yourself. And if you are truly enjoying yourself, you’ll meet lots of people who will know the happier you.

Baare: What lesson would you like to tell your younger self?
Elaine: That I will grow taller! And that all boys aren’t mean. That I’ll be able to eat all the dessert I want (and will!). That there is so much to life to be experienced and to look forward to. And that no matter how far away your dreams may seem, you can always get there.
